wow, where has the time gone? Last post was in 2011. Still trying to figure things out, somethings have changed, other stuff has not. I feel the need to share our adventure from last night. We went to the Stress Factory and saw Bert Kreischer. This is what my husband wanted for Christmas this year, tickets to this show.
We recently saw Bert on a TV show, maybe it was his showtime special. My husband had dvr'd the show so our daughter could watch it when she came up for Christmas. It always amazed me how we could be watching a show and the two of them would just bust out in laughter at the same time, and be laughing really hard while i would maybe just crack a smile. We would always joke that i just didn't have the laugh or funny gene.
When i purchased the tickets, we went with the tickets that had the buffet option. I wanted to be sure we got there earlier than just those with a general admission ticket. Well we got there early enough, we were the first ones to arrive. It was snowing all day, the real first snow of this season and the roads were a mess. (the last time we had ticket to this place , it was to see Amy Schumer, and the show was cancelled due to a major snow). A little bit after we arrived, a second couple arrived. A nice young couple , maybe late 20's or early 30's. "How was your drive ? where did you come from"
Their drive took them about 2 hours, came from south jersey area. Wow, i guess I do kind of remember not caring about driving in the snow when I was younger, now , i just want to get there.
When the time came to be seated, we were given the best seats that were not VIP, pretty much right next to the stage. There was still quite a bit of time for the show, so we all settled in and began the general chit chat you have with strangers. They did not op for the buffet and would later order off the menu. We found out she was vegetarian and every Sat. they drove to a special farm in PA to purchase their staples for the week. In discussing how our daughter was a vegetarian for awhile, the young man kept saying " i love this girl" . Working with some sort of professional, the young lady had also gone thru a sort of elimination diet previously so we talked about the Whole 30 plan that our daughter was using. They were very interested in that having heard of it but not really know what it was all about. There was some conversation about addictive personalities and the whole thing of "as long as the bag is not opened I am ok".
The young lady was a computer engineer who makes sure the casino machines work the way they are suppose to and the young man was involved in environmental cleanups (Exxon/Mobil). This lead into much interesting conversation, We eventually began talking about humor, different people we have seen, who were our favorites and how i enjoy these shows but just don't seem to as much as others, you don't find me laughing out loud.
The comedians finally started, there was a total of 4 acts and i found myself smiling and chucking, but nothing like the lady across the way who actually sounded like a laugh track. One of the comedians even commented on what a great laugh she had.
The show was finally over and as we were wrapping up saying good bye to our table mates, and commenting about how enjoyable the show was, the young man said how he was watching me, maybe comparing throughout the evening my reactions as compared to my husband and his girl friend who both were laughing loudly through out the night. (could it be true, there is a laugh gene?)
As i woke up this morning thinking back on our very nice evening out, i thought to my self that i never really googled "laugh gene". Imagine my surprise when i did find a few articles that does discuss that there is scientific evidence that there is actually a Humor Gene. They named the protein HAHA-1
As i sit here finishing up this post, i am actually smiling as i think this is funny, but you probably won't find me laughing out loud anytime soon, because it is just not in my DNA. But, atleast now i know.
