Wind, Insurance and Rotten Trees.. a continuation

Just who am i anyway ?  Certainly not a tree or insurance expect.  As previously posted, Sunday's windstorm brought down one of our neighbor's trees that is now leaning on the back of our garage at the roof line.

This is just great as his house is under contract and scheduled to close on April 11.  Upon noticing the tree branches now extending above our garage and not over in the neighbor's yard, my first reaction is OH SH..T.

Realizing that earlier, a message came thru my phone from Nixle-the police / emergency notification System - only call police for emergencies that result in power outages or dangerous downed wires, I figure what is going to be my luck in getting thru to our homeowners insurance company.  Well I did., and the claim was put on file, someone would call me in a few day.

The next day, the neighbor's insurance company called us also with a claim number.  Great, the neighbor found his paperwork and knew who to call.

Today I heard from our insurance company who took down more information and said they would pay to have the tree removed from our yard but the bad news is we  have a $1,000 deductible.  Subjugation is not done with these kind of claims.    I am feeling pretty good knowing we have a claim in with the neighbor's insurance company - until I read my email .   Something to the effect of we find the tree in good health and the neighbor did nothing wrong.  Contact your homeowners. An official letter of denial will be prepared.

Are you kidding me ?    does this look like a healthy tree to you ?   I think the insurance rep is mistaking all the strangling ivy around the tree as the greenery of a healthy tree.
Well , I sent more picture asking her to review the additional pictures.  I think the neighbor sent a nice photo showing green growth from somewhere but it is certainly not from this tree.

So here is the deal so far, if you have a concern about the condition of a tree that is in your neighbor's yard, send them a CERTIFIED LETTER express your concerns to document incase that tree ever fall in your yard because you will be stuck with paying your deductible.

This claim is currently in subjugation and we are patiently waiting for our deductible money back.

the Humor Gene

wow, where has the time gone? Last post was in 2011.  Still trying to figure things out, somethings have changed, other stuff has not.   I feel the need to share our adventure from last night.  We went to the Stress Factory and saw Bert Kreischer.    This is what my husband wanted for Christmas this year, tickets to this show.

We recently saw Bert on a TV show, maybe it was his showtime special.  My husband had dvr'd the show so our daughter could watch it when she came up for Christmas.  It always amazed me how we could be watching a show and  the two of them would just bust out in laughter at the same time, and be laughing really hard while i would maybe just crack a smile.  We would always joke that i just didn't have the laugh or funny gene.

When i purchased the tickets, we went with the tickets that had the buffet option.  I wanted to be sure we got there earlier than just those with a general admission ticket.  Well we got there early enough, we were the first ones to arrive.  It was snowing all day, the real first snow of this season and the roads were a mess.   (the last time we had ticket to this place , it was to see Amy Schumer, and the show was cancelled due to a major snow).  A little bit after we arrived, a second couple arrived.  A nice young couple , maybe late 20's or early 30's.  "How was your drive ? where did you come from"

Their drive took them about 2 hours, came from south jersey area. Wow,  i guess I do kind of remember not caring about driving in the snow when I was younger, now , i just want to get there.

When the time came to be seated, we were given the best seats that were not VIP, pretty much right next to the stage.  There was still quite a bit of time for the show, so we all settled in and began the general chit chat you have with strangers.  They did not op for the buffet and would later order off the menu.  We found out she was vegetarian and every Sat. they drove to a special farm in PA to purchase their staples for the week.  In discussing how our daughter was a vegetarian for awhile, the young man kept saying " i love this girl"  . Working with some sort of professional,  the young lady had also gone thru a sort of elimination diet previously so we talked about the Whole 30 plan that our daughter was using.   They were very interested in that having heard of it but not really know what it was all about.  There was some conversation about addictive personalities and the whole thing of "as long as the bag is not opened I am ok".

The young lady was a computer engineer who makes sure the casino machines work the way they are suppose to and the young man was involved in environmental cleanups (Exxon/Mobil).  This lead into much interesting conversation,  We eventually began talking about humor, different people we have seen, who were our favorites and how i enjoy these shows but just don't seem to as much as others, you don't find me laughing out loud.

The comedians finally started, there was a total of 4 acts and i found myself smiling and chucking, but nothing like the lady across the way who actually sounded like a laugh track.   One of the comedians even commented on what a great laugh she had.

The show was finally over and as we were wrapping up saying good bye to our table mates, and commenting about how enjoyable the show was, the young man said how he was watching me, maybe comparing throughout the evening my reactions as compared to my husband and his girl friend who both were laughing loudly through out the night. (could it be true, there is a laugh gene?)

As i woke up this morning thinking back on our very nice evening out, i thought to my self that i never really googled "laugh gene".   Imagine my surprise when i did find a few articles that does discuss that there is scientific evidence that there is actually a Humor Gene.   They named the protein   HAHA-1

As i sit here finishing up this post,  i am actually smiling as i think this is funny, but you probably won't find me laughing out loud anytime soon, because it is just not in my DNA.  But, atleast now i know.

I'm back...atleast for now

Wow, I can't believe it has been so many years since i posted last to this blog.   My last entry was in January 2012,  and our daughter just left to go back to school to finish her last semester in college.

A lot has changed since then,  she graduated, hated being away from her college town and friends and got a job and moved back to her college town of Baltimore.

So the empty nest began.  I can't even tell you what happened the last few years but I can tell you about today.

I was actually thinking about writing about our recent vacation.  I was thinking about my blog title....Just who am i anyway.... and it was so blaring evident..... NOT A VACATION PLANNER.
but you have to wait for that whole story.

Today's story is about being someone who now has to figure out all the ins and outs of what will need to be done with a  HUGH tree (that wasn't on our property) but fell behind our garage, clipping the roof as it came down and is now our responsibility to move.  So, like the commercial says , Like a good neighbor,   State Farm is there.  got my claim number and will wait for the adjuster to call but who really has time for this.   To complicate matter's the tree's owner is moving in shortly and can't recall who his homeowners is with at the moment (and everything is already packed away and in storage) but I am sure they will have a dollar for him. (His mind's file cabinet finally brought it to the front, just too much going on.)  He cheerfully let us know his sister told him, "oh they just need to call their homeowners about the damage".  Thanks, but what about the inconvenience of now having to coordinate with the back neighbor (whose fence got crushed) get a roofer, a tree service and the time it will take to coordinate everything....not to mention $1,000.00 deductible.  Wish you had taken this tree down.

We are  thankful though that it  didn't destroy the garage,  Unlike a house down the street that a HUGH branch broke off of a rather large evergreen and landed smack down on the center of the roof, collapsing out the sides of  the wooden structure.  I hope she didn't have her car in there (which she usually does.)  that would really be sad.

There is a lesson learned here. If there is something on your neighbor's property that will put you property in danger, it is best to but them on notice of your concern......in writing......certified delivery, or you too will learn about tree removal, the dangers of ivy growing up your tree, the importance of trimming trees and why.  And of course, read your homeowners policy so you know what to expect when disaster strikes so you are not surprised as to whose responsibility is what.

Well, time to go and be the cook for the night.

JANUARY 11........ ALREADY ? ? ?

I can't believe it has been over 6-1/2 weeks since my last blog entry...... Time certainly flies when you "are having fun"........ But I don't think I am having fun yet .......

This weekend ends the semester break and back to college our daughter goes.   This is her last semester..... where has the time gone..... Seems like just last week we were visiting colleges.   At least I have learned how to deal with my separation issues -  I think.

So to follow up my last post...... many things have happened......

one of my clients moved to Maryland..... she spent Thanksgiving dinner with us ... It was nice to have the extra company....

Our Toshiba DLP TV bulb blew out again after only 5 months, luckily it had a six month warranty.... we got another one and that didn't work either so we got a refund..... found out from the repair shop, the "inexpensive" bulbs are not good for the TV ..... so we bought a "toshiba" bulb at double the price.-$200 plus tax.....OUCH.... still didn't work..... we finally got the tv into the shop and may have to spend a few hundred more to get it fixed..(could be the ballast).... It does have a really great picture .....but at this price, I could have bought a new tv....talk about products being disposable, this tv is only about 5 years old... had a message from the repair shop this afternoon..... will have to follow up tomorrow.

The Aztek...... is back on the road again....... after a head gasket repair...... double OUCH ! ! !  but she purrs like a kitten.

I had fun this Christmas season making crocheted 'Snowflakes" and gave them out as some small gifts

and then.....

Upon going to work after new years day,  the hard drive on the work computer crapped out.   GREAT..... and then the program was no where to be found to install it on the new computer.  Luckily there was a newer version available, the install went smoothly, the restore went pretty good..... but everything was listed as Personal items not Business so the reports do not come out right....... My 3 day a week job has turned into a 5 day a week job...... at least for now......  I am making progress thought.......W-2's got done, and distributed and 1099's are just a few days away...

I think the most exciting thing thought is my discovering how much i love reading an e-book on my tablet.   I can make the font AS BIG AS I WANT  ! ! ! I don't need to look for a pair of reading glasses

An article on Yahoo caught my eye that was psychological in nature and i looked up a book that was referenced in it that seemed interesting . I was able to download it for $1.99.   Interesting thing..... Mirror Neurons ......

I don't think I will be posting as often as before, but will continue on my discovery as to "just who am i anyway"   .  I wonder what the next six weeks will bring ?   I have been noticing many more gray hairs..... I hope that stops............

With faith……there is hope…..maybe

I never gave up hope…..St. Anthony must have been catching up on his to do list yesterday and finally got to me.   I picked up my robe this morning and as I shook it out to find the arm holes, upon putting it on and getting ready to leave the room, low and behold……THERE IT IS…… a crumpled up green, velvet scunchie lying on the floor.

As I sat here thinking what I would right today, the movie “Miracle on 34th Street” came to mind.  A very young Natalie Wood sitting in the back seat of a car repeating over and over again…..”I believe, I believe, I believe”.

As long as we believe, as long as we have hope……anything is still possible.

Well the above was written this morning…… my hope is fading…..atleast as it applied to my Aztek.   Got it to the shop this morning (after sitting in the library parking lot for five minutes to cool it down since the temp was climbing)

The call I got later in the afternoon was the repair may be more than what the car is worth…..My heart is breaking…..it is like watching a fish dying….you want to do something but you just don’t know what to do.   (going for a second opionion….somewhere ….anywhere…..and then I will figure out all my options. )

I really have to stop getting so attached to my cars ……(and a lot of other things)   need to just let things GO ! ……just wish they would have found this problem out last year before I did the new alternator, new battery, new computer module, trans flush…..or atleast when they did the new shocks a few weeks ago…….

Lost & (not) Found

I should have known better.   I was taking a chance wearing it outside.   It was loose.

I retraced all of my steps …..twice…..and didn’t find it.    It has ruined my day…..I am bummed out……

But it is only a hair scrunchie…… but it was a special scrunchie…….it was green velvet….. our daughter wore it at Christmas time when she was younger……I have been tying my hair back at night when I sleep since it is getting long again.   I should have twisted it three times not two…….my hair was under my coat so I didn’t notice that it must have slipped out of my hair until much later.

St. Anthony must have been busy because he couldn’t help today….. maybe I just forgot and it wasn’t in my hair and it is in the house somewhere.

Maybe this loss is just setting me up for dealing with a bigger loss…..

I hate when I lose things or things break……

It makes me sad…….
